In the Export option choose Movie to DV Stream and then set your options as required (make sure Scan Mode is set to Interlaced). I am able to drag the footage from the camera to my desktop, convert, and then import to iMovie with no problem. I've used this camera for years with iMovie with no issues.

The photos app is the one that you imported the video to. It is a built in app and cannot be deleted. IT is the app that lets you view photos.
