You will need a soldering iron for this process as a torch will warp the metal and a soldering gun will not provide consistent heat. You should also create a block to clamp the seam, wood is fine as you should not be using a torch. WebSolder is certainly the way to go for the best joints, but given that you are using galvanized steel, its also a bit of an overkill as that joint will outlast the rest of the gutter by a lot (unless you’re painting it).
